Get to Know Winnafred Woke
I was born in Washington D.C., to two parents heavily involved in politics. My father, Scott Woke, worked as a lobbyist for over 30 years for Greenpeace USA and my mother, Kathleen Woke, served four-terms as mayor for Washington D.C. from 1980-1996. Nonetheless, politics and policy making constantly surrounded me.
At a young age, I found myself deeply intrigued with the interworking of our Nation's government. Growing up surrounded by such powerful and prominent figures allowed me to discover my passion for politics and the country as a whole. It was then that I uncovered my strong opinions on many pressing issues. I attended the Sidwell Friends School from kindergarten to twelfth grade, growing up with many students like myself whose parents were also heavily involved in politics. I graduated in 2009 from Brown University with a double concentration in Political Science and Environmental Studies. I subsequently received a Masters degree in Political Analytics from Columbia University in 2011. I went on to serve one term as a U.S. Senator for the State of New York and later began to campaign for President. Aside from my career in politics I am a wife, daughter, feminist, environmentalist, dog lover, and a proud American. After meeting my husband at Brown's undergraduate program we later wed in 2012. My husband Noah Woke and I later had our son Declan Woke in 2020. As a mother I believe that our children are our future, I believe that family comes first. Not just mine, yours too! |
